Fall colors are in full bloom, wx is absolutely beautiful, life is short and covid is on, so I’ve decided to go explore the NW Arkansas backcountry this month. Clear off your calendars and come join me!
Steve Johnson, Chip Gibbons + others have done an amazing job opening up access to this beautiful country for those of us who enjoy getting off the beaten path of traditional aviation, and I’ve yet to see any of it. The plan is to base at a strip near Fuel, MX and civilization, but with the feeling of wilderness isolation. It’ll be kinda ‘glamping’ because although we’ll sleep in tents, there is access to a shower, bathroom & running water. No internet at Camp, but ATT & Verizon service is reported to be very acceptable in the event anybody needs to do a little biz; plus an awesome FBO is in close proximity. Here is what I’m thinking, however you can of course join for as much as little as your schedule & interest permits:
Primary Dates: Oct 14 - Arrive Camp Oct 15 - Fly & explore the area OR fall bass fishing w local guide (subject to guide availability) Oct 16 - Fly & explore the area OR fall bass fishing w local guide (subject to guide availability) Oct 17 - Break camp & depart for home WX Backup Dates: Oct 28 - Arrive Camp Oct 29 - Fly & explore the area OR fall bass fishing w local guide (subject to guide availability) Oct 30 - Fly & explore the area OR fall bass fishing w local guide (subject to guide availability) Oct 31 - Break camp & depart for home Beyond that nothing very formal or highly organized; let’s just go check it out. Take a peek at this terrific overview of what’s cooking in the region which was recorded a few days ago: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jv1uYxofhhg&t=882s If interested, please advise which dates could potentially work, and I’ll keep you posted on details and plans as they materialize.
